The Art of Brewing: Mastering Your Obsidian Leaf Sencha

Sencha is more than just green tea; it is a delicate instrument. By adjusting the temperature and timing, you can unlock different layers of its character — from refreshing and crisp to sweet and buttery.

Method 1: The Classic Balance

Perfect for a bright, traditional morning cup.

  • Temperature: 80°C / 175°F
  • Time: 60 – 90 seconds
  • Profile: Vibrant emerald color, balanced sweetness, and a fresh grassy finish.

Method 2: Deep Focus (Our Signature Method)

Designed for maximum umami and a smooth, prolonged energy boost without the bitterness.

  • Temperature: 70°C / 160°F
  • Time: 2.5 – 3 minutes
  • Profile: Deep, buttery, and incredibly sweet. This lower temperature prevents the release of harsh tannins, resulting in a thick, "brothy" texture that keeps you focused for hours.

Method 3: Cold Brew (Mizudashi)

The ultimate refreshment. Best for a clean, caffeine-mellow experience.

  • Method: Use 10-15g of tea per 1 liter of room-temperature water.
  • Time: Steep for 2–3 hours on the counter or 6–8 hours in the fridge.
  • Profile: The mildest method. Cold water extracts sweetness while leaving almost all bitterness behind.

Pro Tip from Obsidian Leaf:
Never use boiling water. Boiling water "burns" the delicate leaves, turning noble freshness into unwanted bitterness. If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, let the boiling water sit with the lid off for about 5 minutes before brewing.
